Description: A superb source for the academician, amateur historian, genealogist and student of military and Church history, the importance of O'Callaghan's four volumes is widely acknowledged. This vast collection of information not only includes documents and lists of inhabitants during the early Dutch and English periods in New York, but also extensive information on the German (Palatine) and French Hugenot landings in 1710 and before. Details on the French and Indians are presented. Even the steamboat controversy! All documents are translated into English. A fine library acquisition!
O'Callaghan's Documentary History of New York is complete, with all maps and plates, and can be used on either Mac or Windows. The Adobe Acrobat Reader program is on the disc, and installation and reading is a very simple matter (only a small file is installed on your hard drive.)
The work presented here was published by Dr. O'Callaghan during 1849-1851, by Weeds, Parsons & Co., Albany, N.Y.
The Tables of Contents for the more than 4,356 pages of the Four Volume set are presented here in truncated form, and the many documents, plates, maps and illustrations are not listed under each chapter name. The chapter contents speak eloquently of the breadth of documents made available by O'Callaghan's work.
